Music and a child's heart

The theme of my day can easily be described with the word "music". I didn't really realize until today how much of a part of my life music really is. I had a ton of time to think while I was making the 4 hour drive from Lafayette to Newburgh for Christmas break and listened to a ton of music in that time and am doing so right now. It's the perfect way to relax and it seems like every word of every song pertains to you and where you are at in your life. I started off listening to Brooke Fraser's "Albertine" album, which has become one of my favorites over the past few months. Brooke is one of the singers for the worship band Hillsong United and has put out two solo albums. This particular one is a mix of love songs about her love for the Lord and her desire to have a relationship with someone. I recommend checking her out if you haven't heard of her. After that, I listened to her other album, "What to do with Daylight", which is amazing as well. For the remainder of the four hour drive, I listened to the I Heart Revolution CD by Hillsong United. It's without a doubt my favorite CD at the moment and ever since I got it for that matter (thanks Isaac!) It's a mixture of live songs from their tour around the world. They have songs from about 25 different countries and they are all of worship! I look forward to long drives by myself just so I can put in that CD and turn it up and sing at the top of my lungs. I have had several emotional moments where I just break down and sob listening to the words of the songs and worshiping my Lord while I'm driving (it's probably not safe, haha). Today it was the song "Hosanna" that broke me. The line "I see a generation, rising up to take their place with selfless faith, I see a near revival stirring as we pray and seek, we're on our knees, we're on our knees" hit me really hard. I have been so aware of this idea lately and hearing at that moment, even though I had heard the song a hundred times already, was clearly God speaking to my heart. He was saying that this is why He made us. His desire is for us to be so hungry for Him and for the world to love Him that we're on our knees crying out to Him for help and to come near to us. I love that picture!
I just remembered too that at church this morning, pastor Steve talked about living like a child and having a song to sing. How when children are young and happy, there is song in their hearts and they sing it all the time and don't care who is around or listening. I thought it was perfect how that all tied in to my whole day!

Fruitcake and Icecream

So this is my very first blog that I have done and I'm pretty pumped up about it. I have a ton of stuff going on in my head and rarely do I get any of it out, so I figured this would be an easy way for me to do that. If all goes well, I'll be posting on here daily, but we'll see how that goes, haha.

I am so amazed at our generation. There is a "stereotype" for us that all we do is party, stay up late, sleep late, and drink. There is a sense that the adults think that we still haven't grown up and that college is still just a place for us to stay kids. This may be true for some of the students that I have seen, but for the overwhelmingly large majority, it's a wrong stereotype. I am seeing more profound things in this world or even just West Lafayette, each day, and for the large part it's from our generation. At this time in our country, things seem to keep getting worse with the economy, terrorism, and just worry and anxiety for our nation and world as a whole. There is a sense of urgency to fix the problem and that it takes the leaders of this country and the "experienced" people to make these changes happen, but I challenge that idea. If there is ever going to be a change or a revolution in this world, it's going to happen and start with us. To quote Louie Giglio, "The great revolutions didn't start with the elders in the church, but with the youth." There is more energy, creativity, passion, and dreaming at this time in our lives that there will ever be again. We have the world at our fingertips and we just need to do something about it. I know so many people that have huge dreams for the world and what it could become. There are dreams of peace, ending poverty, ending hunger, ending homelessness, and wiping out AIDS. I think the world is in one of it's worst times ever and is begging for someone to step up and do something about it. This is our time! I share many of the same dreams that you all do and think that we need to do something about it! To quote a good friend, "Don't say about it, be about it." Let's stop dreaming about a better world and make it one!
