Fruitcake and Icecream

So this is my very first blog that I have done and I'm pretty pumped up about it. I have a ton of stuff going on in my head and rarely do I get any of it out, so I figured this would be an easy way for me to do that. If all goes well, I'll be posting on here daily, but we'll see how that goes, haha.

I am so amazed at our generation. There is a "stereotype" for us that all we do is party, stay up late, sleep late, and drink. There is a sense that the adults think that we still haven't grown up and that college is still just a place for us to stay kids. This may be true for some of the students that I have seen, but for the overwhelmingly large majority, it's a wrong stereotype. I am seeing more profound things in this world or even just West Lafayette, each day, and for the large part it's from our generation. At this time in our country, things seem to keep getting worse with the economy, terrorism, and just worry and anxiety for our nation and world as a whole. There is a sense of urgency to fix the problem and that it takes the leaders of this country and the "experienced" people to make these changes happen, but I challenge that idea. If there is ever going to be a change or a revolution in this world, it's going to happen and start with us. To quote Louie Giglio, "The great revolutions didn't start with the elders in the church, but with the youth." There is more energy, creativity, passion, and dreaming at this time in our lives that there will ever be again. We have the world at our fingertips and we just need to do something about it. I know so many people that have huge dreams for the world and what it could become. There are dreams of peace, ending poverty, ending hunger, ending homelessness, and wiping out AIDS. I think the world is in one of it's worst times ever and is begging for someone to step up and do something about it. This is our time! I share many of the same dreams that you all do and think that we need to do something about it! To quote a good friend, "Don't say about it, be about it." Let's stop dreaming about a better world and make it one!
